British Airways cabin crew have lost their appeal in the Court of Appeal over BA's cost cutting proposals.
www.baisshite.com the latest news and views on British Airways, the world's "favourite" airline. This site contains updates on the ongoing strike action, and dispute between BA and Unite.
It was inevitable that Unite would lose on this one. The fact that they didn't ask for leave to appeal to the Supreme court speaks volumes about their confidence in their cause. It is truly sad that the union is being pushed into ill advised legal action by a bunch of overpaid flying waiters and waitresses. These people's jobs are not under threat of spending cuts or slashed pay. Indeed, the offer that was out forward earlier this year and has since been tweaked to form the current pitch GUARANTEES a pay RISE of 6%. No other employee group in BA is getting that, many have got a pay FREEZE for the next two years. It's not a case of BA is shite, but BA's cabin crew branches, BASSA and CC89 who are failing to represent members interests and lying either directly or by omission to the membership. High time that those who support the cabin crew dispute took a closer look at the branch officers and finances involved. The branch secretary draws an income in excess of £60,000 pa from members subs. This was on top of his pay from BA (when he was employed by them). The branch also pays a number of ex-BA employees who are now retired, a neat retainer. The fact that these same people are ex reps is entirely coincidental. The reps draw £100 a day expenses if they are involved in union duties. Nice earner that - pays better than working for their employer. High time someone ordered an sudit of the btanch accounts
